Dolly Parton is a special person, with an even more amazing gift. Though she grew up poor in the mountains of Tennessee, her kindness, immense talent, love of the Lord, and passion for good shows through in every performance. One such instance took place on the 1989 CMA Awards when she performed a moving rendition of “He’s Alive”.

Dolly’s Performance Was Particularly Moving

During her performance on the CMA Awards that year, Dolly was backed up by the Christ Church choir, adding volume and intensity to her already moving performance. Audience members were likely surprised to be privy to such a moving, amazing performance. Dolly’s version of “He’s Alive” ended up in the Billboard’s Top 100 country charts.

Dolly Always Wanted to Perform “He’s Alive”

Dolly once gave an interview to, where she revealed that she had always had a desire to record this particular song. She said the following:

“I always intended to do it because it moved me and I hadn’t had the opportunity because I wanted to do it somebody that was Christian. You have to really feel something and be passionate about it, and believe in it to do it….the song meant a lot to me.”

Dolly Isn’t Ashamed of Her Faith

Dolly perfectly exemplifies Romans 1:16, which says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it has the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: firs to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Dolly could have chosen a secular song to perform at the CMA Awards and would likely been have applauded by her peers just as much. However, she stepped out in faith and gave an amazing testimony in the form of a song about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
