Be blessed. God bless. These statements are commonplace. However, have you ever considered what it takes to be blessed by God? Is it as simple as praying “God bless me?” Well, according to this video there are a few steps you should take before expecting God to bless you.
Before Expecting a Blessing, Do This:
- Step Out in Faith: The video explores the story involving Elijah in 1 Kings 17. In the story, a widow woman and her son are down to their last meal before dying of starvation. However, God tells her to feed Elijah out of her remaining provisions. God promises to take care of them, but the command must have seemed strange to the woman. Why would God ask her to give away all she had? By human standards, it doesn’t make sense.
1 Kings 17:14 says, “For thus saith the Lord of God of Israel, the barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.” In other words, this verse communicates God’s ability to provide for the widow, her son, and Elijah. Provided the woman step out in faith first and actually give the last of her provisions in order to receive the blessing of God’s provisional promise.

This video explains that sometimes God’s blessings require something from us. Sure, God can and does bless people even without any action on their part. However, in other cases, He requires us to do something in order to open ourselves up for these blessings.
