The album as a whole peaked at No. 45 on Country Albums Chart in 1970.

The Song As Been Covered by Many Artists

“Jesus is a Soul Man” has since been covered by many artists, most notably Johnny Rivers in 1970 and Hank Williams Jr. as part of his Sunday Morning album, released in 1969. The great Johnny Cash also sang the song when he performed a live duet with Reynolds on The Johnny Cash Show in 1970. Of course, we can’t forget to mention the artist featured below, Conway Twitty, who also included “Jesus is a Soul Man” on his Clinging to a Saving Hand album, released in 1973. “Jesus is a Soul Man” Lyrics

The song “Jesus is a Soul Man” isn’t as well known as some of the other hymns and Christian favorites we often feature here. However, the lyrics showcase why this song was highlighted. Read them in part below:

Jesus is a soul man

Jesus is a soul man

Jesus is a soul man

And I’m sure sold on Him

Oh, they say that He’s a square

That Jesus, He ain’t nowhere

I know better, He lives in my heart

Jesus is a soul man

You can find Him in the Bible pages

Jesus, He’s the rock of ages

Hides me in the cleft of the rock

Jesus is a soul man
