For those in the Christian faith, getting baptized is a huge step in obedience. Oftentimes, baptism marks the first time a person publicly testifies to what God has done in their private life. Teachers and pastors sometimes describe the act as “an outward showing/display of an inward change.” The little boy in this “Follow Jesus” video you can watch below was more than ready to experience baptism. In fact, he was so ready, he just couldn’t wait one second longer. Before his pastor could get to the part of the ceremony where he dunked the little boy in the water, the child took it upon himself to get on with the program. He baptized himself! Oh but that we would all have the exuberance this child displays for something God asks us to do in obedience.
What is Baptism?
In the Bible, baptism is mentioned many times. It is the act of dunking underneath the water meant to symbolize the “death” to sin or old way of life and resurrection into a new life in Christ post salvation. Of course, some denominations sprinkle with water instead of submerging. The idea is still the same, though, whether a person is dunked or sprinkled, that they are displaying in front others the fact that a significant change has occurred in their life.
What’s The Bible Say?
In Acts 2:38 the Bible says, “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'”
Matthew 28: 19 says, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
The first verse explains the important role baptism plays in the Christian faith and the second, which is often referred to as the “Great Commission,” explains that we as believers are supposed to share our faith, including the need to be baptized. These are just two of the many verses in the Word of God that speak of baptism and its importance.
We Can All Learn From This Boy’s Example
The little boy in this video was ready to be obedient as the scripture commands and is a good example to us all as to how we should approach our life in God, with unbridled exuberance and excitement.
