Our connection with God is of utmost importance. Without it, no part of our life is complete. Therefore, removing barriers that come in between us and God is vital. The following video below outlines the Parable of the Prodigal son. In this video, which is worth viewing in its entirety, it talks about how we can “barricade” ourselves away from God by making a few wrong choices.

How We Begin to Lose Our Connection With God

Not Believing You Are Worthy of Love

Before you can succeed in having a connection with God, you have to believe you are worthy of said connection. You are worthy to be loved. You are worthy enough that Jesus Himself died for you after coming to earth making a way of repentance just for you. When you don’t believe you are worthy of love, you can stand in your own way. You will inadvertently pull away from all that God has for you.

Not Understanding The Difference Between Guilt and Shame

God makes a way for you to repent of your sins. After this, He is faithful and just to forgive those sins. In 1 John 1:9 the Bible says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” This verse means there is no reason for shame because you can be purified and forgiven for your sins if you only ask. Therefore, you don’t have to let the shame of past sin stand in the way of your connection with God.

The connection mentioned above should not be confused with salvation. That will never be taken from you. This connection is instead one that happens when we are walking faithfully and obediently in God’s will.
