The promises of God: They are well known, and well loved. You cling to them in times of trail and seek them in times of pain. You embrace them in times of joy. However, do you ever think about God’s timing as it relates to His promises? If you are like most, you probably don’t think about it often enough if ever. This video below features Bishop TD Jakes exploring this very issue. He says that focusing only on God’s promises without an equal focus on His timing will only lead to frustration.
Promises of God Without Timing
When you focus only on the promises of God without considering God’s timing, it creates a difficult and frustrating situation. This is because though God’s promises are true always, the timing of the fulfillment of those promises might not be what you think they should be, meaning you will not “see” or “experience” the promises when you might want. You might be seeking a promise too early. You can easily become frustrated when you aren’t seeing the results you feel God has promised. However, not getting the promise you desire doesn’t mean you won’t get it ever, just perhaps not right now.
What The Bible Says
The scripture speaks on not comparing our lives with others. In many ways, this has a lot to do with God’s timing. God’s timing for certain promises is different for others than for you. Perhaps, you won’t get the new house or the baby you so desperately want right now. Just because you see someone else experiencing your promise, doesn’t mean they are being favored of God more than you, it just means His timing is different for them. Therefore, comparison only serves to frustrate. Remember, Galatians 6:4 “Don’t compare yourself with others..” Hang in there, God’s got you. Just give Him time!
