Today’s country music is influenced by all kinds of music genres from folk and bluegrass to gospel. Gospel in particular has had a particularly strong influence on the industry due to the fact that so many artists were raised singing hymns and gospel melodies in church. Consequently, several country artists have chosen to go back to their roots so to speak and record a gospel album at some point during their career. Though Braid Paisley has not made the move to record a gospel album of his own as of yet, he was a featured artist on the 2008 “How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites From the Grand Ole Opry” album.

Paisley’s History With The Opry

The album mentioned above was recorded live during a collaborative performance at the Grand Ole Opry. However, it wasn’t the first time Brad Paisley performed at the hallowed ground. Years prior when he was just starting out as a country artist, Paisley stunned the crowd by performing an amazing rendition of “In the Garden,” which you can enjoy for yourself by watching the video below.

“In The Garden” Performance Details

Paisley was accompanied while he sang this beautiful old hymn by ultra talented steel guitar player Mike Johnson. Paisley’s heartfelt delivery of the piece seemed to wow the audience despite his style of singing. For example, though the performance was without flair, the simplicity of the hymn and conviction in which Paisley sang drew in the crowd nonetheless. When his performance was drawing to a close, Paisley was joined onstage by singer-songwriter Steve Wariner who proceeded to harmonize beautifully with Paisley, bringing the song to completion. As the music died down, the crowd responded with a wholehearted round of applause, which was most certainly well-deserved.
