How NOT to Share Your Faith

Sharing your faith is scary. Will you be rejected? What should you say to begin the process? Is there anything you should avoid when evangelizing? Yes! There are some common mistakes you want to avoid if you ever hope to win over your friends and family for Christ. This video below published by Jason Powell is a hilarious skit showing what “not to do” when telling others about Christ. Avoiding these pitfalls will go a long way in finding success in evangelism:

What Not To Do

  • Don’t Burn Bridges: The video opens with our main character stealing a parking space from another man in front of the coffee shop they both end up entering. He murmurs a prayer of thankfulness that God provided said space. Unfortunately, our Jesus Freak evangelist essentially burned a bridge he once had with the man whom he cut off in the parking lot. This proves we must always treat others as Jesus would so we don’t “burn a bridge” with them.
  • Don’t Come On Too Strong: Another thing our evangelist does wrong once he enters the coffee shop is coming on way too strong. He goes up to anyone and everyone asking them if they know Jesus. He then stands up and loudly proclaims the “word God has given him” during his devotion. This is off-putting for individuals who are unfamiliar with things of God. A gentler approach is likely better.
  • Don’t Insult The Unsaved: This character also seems to weave insults into his witness approach. He criticizes one person for their tattoos and earrings, implying he must not know God because of them.

Don’t be like the man in this video. Instead, treat others as you would have them treat you, especially when witnessing. Remember God’s word in Matthew 7:12

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law of the Prophets.”

Keep this truth in mind and you will do well when witnessing!!!
