Growing up, you likely had plenty of questions for your parents. If not, surely you have heard these questions from your own kids or others in your care. Why is the sky blue? Why do animals have fur? Where did the stars come from and why do they “glow”? Who made the earth? On and on and on the questions go. Perhaps above all these questions, though, is one that is more challenging to answer. Where did God come from? If you have ever been asked this by your children, you probably found yourself a bit stumped. Thankfully, this video posted by Follow Jesus answers this question in the best way possible. You can view this video below.

Where Did God Come From?

The question “where did God come from?” is posed to an expert in this video. In his answer, this expert says asking such a question means you are thinking of God the wrong way. The God of the Bible, who we worship is not affected by time, space or matter. If He was affected by time, space or matter, He wouldn’t be God.

More About Time, Space, Matter and God

Time, space and matter are a continuum. To clarify, if there were time and space, but no matter, where would you put it? If there were matter/mass and space, but no time, when would you put it? You can’t have time, space or matter independently of one another. They all have to come into existence at the same time. God addressed this issue within His word, to give us all clarity on the issue.

What The Bible Says About Where God Came From

In Genesis 1:1 it says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

This verse tells us all we need to know about the question where did God come from?:

“In the beginning” is the time element.

“God created the heavens” is the space element.

“And earth” is the matter element.

The three things were created simultaneously, forming a trinity of sorts. Therefore, the God who created these things, couldn’t be affected or embodied by that which he created. In the same way, a person who creates a computer isn’t housed within its modem. This mind-blowing way to look at God’s origin showcases the greatness of the God we serve.
